Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 19, 2012

The Doctors Health Press, a publisher of various natural health newsletters, books and reports, including the popular online Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, is lending its support to a recent study showing the effects of capsaicin on reducing belly fat.

As reported in Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin on Thursday, May 17, 2012 (http://www.doctorshealthpress.com/weight-loss-articles/the-spice-proven-to-help-you-drop-belly-fat), according recent study at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, researchers found that capsaicin — best known to help treat arthritis when used in a cream on the skin — could play a role in the future of weight management. The study is published in the May issue of ”Digestive Diseases and Sciences.”

The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin article reports that the study investigated two surgeries that could be used in place of bariatric surgery. “Vagotomy” involves removing the vagus nerve, which transmits information between the gut and the brain.”Vagal deafferentation” also involves the vagus nerve, but rather than removing the nerve completely, surgeons use capsaicin to destroy only certain nerve fibers.

They found that vagotomy significantly reduced total body fat, as well as visceral abdominal fat. The latter is the dangerous layer of fat that pads the spaces between abdominal organs. Vagal deafferentation also reduced these fats, but to a lesser degree. However, according to the researchers, the reduction is still remarkable.

The reduced visceral fat is especially important. High visceral fat volume is a marker of obesity and obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes.

Between the two surgeries, vagal deafferentation is associated with fewer side effects.

The researchers note that more work needs to be done on whether these surgeries can be used on humans, and whether capsaicin could be applied directly to human vagal fibers. The study results, however, provide promise of what the future can hold.

As demand for surgeries that reduce weight and obesity – related diseases increases, procedures that can achieve success in a less invasive fashion will be more important.

CNS Network Partners With Verified Clinical Trials And Joins The VCT National Database Registry To Stop Dual Enrollment In Clinical Trials And Improve Safety And Quality

Verified Clinical Trials-
Stops Dual Enrollment

Long Beach, California (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

CNS Network an established leader in clinical trial research turns to Verified Clinical Trials (VCT) to stop the professional research subject from enrolling in multiple clinical trials simultaneously known as dual enrollment. CNS Network’s commitment to clinical research volunteer safety and data quality has led them to implement the Verified Clinical Trials database registry system.

Multiple simultaneous enrollments have become a serious problem in the clinical research world as research volunteers attempt to jump from one study to another without waiting for enough time to lapse between treatments in effort to earn money or receive free care. The professional research volunteer places everyone at risk including the drug manufacturer, the research site, and most importantly potentially jeopardizing the health of the volunteer. Furthermore, this may result in issues with the data quality.

Verified Clinical Trials offers CNS Network the proper tool to detect and stop the professional research subject” states Jack Stephens, President of CNS Network. Stephens added, “Most of us in the industry recognize the existence and the ramifications of dual enrollment in clinical trials, but we have never before been able to quantify it, detect it, nor stop it”.

Sandra Scott LPT, Senior Training Coordinator, is excited to “ensure safety and improve data quality with a tool that is both time and cost effective. CNS Network is excited to join the VCT network”.

Dr. Mitchell Efros, CEO of Verified Clinical Trials (VCT) states, “CNS Network has joined an impressive cohort of companies both locally and globally to improve the quality of their trials. The recognition and uptake of dual enrollment and use of the VCT system has literally exploded as of late”. Dr. Efros added, “We are very excited to have a company like CNS Network join our expansive network that includes and focuses on both early and late phase trials. CNS Network has joined the largest clinical research database network across North America and only strengthens this cooperative registry.”

About CNS Network :

Advocate Health Care partners with Merge Healthcare to provide physicians instant access to cardiac imaging and informatics solutions

Advocate Health Care partners with Merge Healthcare to provide physicians instant access to cardiac imaging and informatics solutions

Oak Brook, IL (PRWEB) May 13, 2012

Merge Healthcare, a leading provider of enterprise imaging and interoperability solutions, has announced that Advocate Health Care, one of the nation’s top health care systems, will implement Merge’s complete cardiology solution suite to capture, manage and display cardiac images, and hemodynamics and ECG data across its enterprise of more than 250 care sites, including 10 acute-care hospitals and two integrated children’s hospitals.

“Advocate is an example for others to follow as they’ve set in place a strategy that promotes the sharing of images and information across their enterprise,” said Jeff Surges, CEO, Merge Healthcare. “They are taking the critically important step of providing physicians with access to images and information regardless of their location. With this type of ‘anywhere, anytime’ access to images and information, they’re delivering on a plan that will help improve the healthcare experience for patients and physicians.”

“There are a number of reasons Advocate partnered with Merge Healthcare,” said Dr. Lee Sacks, executive vice president, chief medical officer, Advocate Health Care. “We valued their approach because it is a true partnership. That’s something we believe is key to long-term success. Second, their solutions are highly-respected by users. For example, Merge Hemo is ranked #1 by KLAS (an organization that measures customers’ product perceptions). Earning a designation like that says a lot about their commitment to excellence.”

“As a cardiologist, I need to have immediate access to a patient’s complete cardiology record to ensure I make the most informed medical decisions,” said Dr. Vincent Bufalino, Advocate Health Care. “With Merge’s solutions, I can see cardiology images wherever I am – whether I’m at the hospital, in my office, or even at a remote location. Having this type of access is immensely beneficial.”

Advocate selected the full suite of Merge Cardiology Solutions for its ability to help improve workflow and enhance patient care. With Merge Cardio, patient information is integrated from different sources into a centralized web-based system. As a result, cardiologists can quickly access their patient’s complete cardiology file from a single point (including the EMR), generate a report, and distribute it in a single session—even if they are at a remote location.

With the simplified reporting tools inherent to Merge Cardio, physicians can now get information and reports faster, and in a more consistent manner. And with its integration with the industry’s top EMRs, that information can be accessed timely and securely regardless of location.

The Merge Cardiology suite includes Merge Cardio™, an enterprise-level image and information system; Merge Hemo™, a catheterization laboratory knowledge tool for data collection, analysis and reporting (ranked #1 by KLAS); iConnect® Access, a zero-download DICOM image and XDS viewer; and iConnect® Share, an Internet-based gateway for image sharing.

CashNow.net Launches New Phone Number to Give Payday Loan Access to Non–Internet Users

Cash Now

(PRWEB) May 12, 2012

CashNow.net has introduced a new way for customers to apply for payday loans. Prospective borrowers who do not have access to the Internet or who, for whatever reason, do not want to want to complete their loan application via the Internet, can now call a 24-hour phone number to apply for a loan. Customer service representatives are available at the number to help customers with the application process. The new phone number, located on the site’s “Contact Us” page, allows customers to apply over the phone just as quickly and easily as they would be able to going online.

“CashNow.net is proud to offer this new service to our customers,” says CashNow.net spokesperson Ted Harris. “The new phone number allows us to provide complete access to payday loans to a wider range of potential borrowers. Customers who might not have applied for a loan before because of their reluctance or inability to get online can now easily and quickly get the money they need to cover emergency expenses.”

Individuals who need cash now to pay for rent, medical care, car repairs, home repairs and other necessary and unexpected expenses can get quick and convenient help from a payday loan. This type of loan is available in amounts between $ 100 and $ 1,500, with the specific loan amount that a customer can get based on the customer’s monthly salary and determined by the specific lender they use through CashNow.net. Borrowers can receive their payday loan, which is deposited directly into their checking account by their lender, within just minutes of it being approved. Borrowers generally repay their loans when they receive their next paycheck, and repayment is done via convenient electronic withdrawal from the customer’s bank account.

Loan applicants do not have to have good credit to qualify for a payday loan. They must, however, be at least 18 years of age, a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S., employed with at least 90 days on the job, and be earning a monthly income of no less than $ 1,000 after taxes. Individuals applying via the new application phone number must also supply their checking account information, home and work phone numbers, and a valid email address to the representative they speak with. Applicants can only use a checking account that is registered in their name.

CashNow.net hopes that its new 24-hour application phone number serves as a valuable resource for individuals around the country and bolsters its overall relationship with consumers.

A York Optician is Urging Local MP?s to Support Life-threatening Child Eye Cancer Campaign

A York Optician is Urging Local MP’s to Support Life-threatening Child Eye Cancer Campaign

The staff at Viewpoint are raising awareness of child eye cancer

(PRWEB UK) 11 May 2012

In conjunction with World Retinoblastoma Awareness Week (13th to 19th May), optometrists at Viewpoint are highlighting this devastating condition and are backing the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust’s (CHECT) campaign to make vital information about Retinoblastoma readily available to parents.

The team at Viewpoint are getting involved in the campaign by signing the petition and contacting local York MP’s, Hugh Bayley and Julian Sturdy, asking them to show their support and lobby to the Department of Health, in the hope that the vital information on Retinoblastoma will be published in the Personal Child Health Record (Red Book) and Birth to Five book. They will also be raising funds throughout the awareness week for the CHECT, donating £20 to the charity for every pair of glasses sold.

Retinoblastoma is a life-threatening form of eye cancer that develops in the cells of the retina, affecting babies and young children. Optometrists at Viewpoint are warning parents to look out for the signs of the condition. The most common early sign is a white glow in the child’s eye. This is usually only visible to the naked eye in low artificial lighting or when a flash has been used on a photograph. Some children may develop a squint and other less common signs are deterioration of vision, change to the colour of the iris or red, irritated eyes without infection.

The condition is often diagnosed late, once the tumor has already grown extensively within the eye. It is treatable but the later it is detected, the more aggressive the treatment will be. Sometimes the whole eye needs to be removed and the child requires follow-up chemotherapy and goes on to endure invasive checkups throughout childhood.

Early diagnosis creates a greater choice of treatment, avoiding the more aggressive procedures. Currently there is no information provided by the NHS for parents however, if they were aware of the symptoms and spotted retinoblastoma, they could seek medical help as soon as possible, reducing the chance of the child losing an eye.

The CHECT campaign, launched last year, called on the Department of Health to make changes to the Personal Child Health Record, the Birth to Five Book and NHS online, to include the signs and symptoms of the condition. Although the NHS Online team has agreed to publish the information and the committees responsible for the Personal Child Health Record and the Birth to Five Book have agreed to consider the proposals for change, the campaigning continues.

Viewpoint is urging people to get behind the campaign and help spread the word about this condition. You can find out more information about the condition and sign up to the petition on Viewpoint’s Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/viewpointopticians

DoctorsHealthPress.com Reports on Study Showing New Supplement That Can Help Prevent Colon Cancer

DoctorsHealthPress.com Reports on Study Showing New Supplement That Can Help Prevent Colon Cancer

DoctorsHealthPress.com Reports on Study Showing New Supplement That Can Help Prevent Colon Cancer

Boston, MA (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

The Doctors Health Press, a publisher of various natural health newsletters, books and reports, including the popular online Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin, is reporting on a recent study showing that a “prebiotic” supplement could help reduce one’s risk of colon cancer.

As reported in Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 (http://www.doctorshealthpress.com/cancer-articles/the-supplements-that-shield-you-from-colon-cancer), Michigan researchers found that fiber supplements that serve as food for the trillions of tiny bacteria living in the gut, can stimulate the growth of the “good” bacteria. The fiber helps the body produce more natural killer cells — which are lethal protective substances that kill off any foreign invaders like bacteria. They also limit the amount of inflammation in the body — something that is linked to nearly every chronic illness.

The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin article reports that the study reports that mice given the prebiotic “galacto-oligosaccharide” (GOS) had far reduced severity of colitis than other mice did. Colitis is the main form of inflammatory bowel disease. Mice fed GOS had a 50% reduction in colitis.

Past research has shown that certain types of foods and fibers could reduce colon cancer risk. There is something unique about certain fibers, like GOS. They can alter cells and influence the immune system in possibly hugely beneficial ways. The overall goal here was to find diet components that lowered cancer risk.

The Doctors Health Press e-Bulletin article further reports that the researchers found that mice given GOS had significantly less inflammation and fewer abnormal cells. Both are precursors for colon cancer. These positive results were linked to the significant enhancement of the body’s own natural killer cells, found in the immune system and crucial in fighting off new infections in the body.

This could set the stage for some serious breakthroughs in the area of cancer research. The next step is to see how prebiotics work, finding a link that could apply to other intestinal problems as well.
